A lot has changed since the internet and cell phones have become a part of everyday life. One consequence of most teenagers now holding their own cell phone is that they have become a big distraction in schools. Kids are always on their phones now when allowed and often times are using them in school without permission. It has come to educators attention in Virginia that many kids are “sexting” while in school, or sending each other explicit messages. The state senate recently voted to allow teachers to intervene if they think there is sexting going on.

What they will be able to do- Teachers will now be allowed to confiscate the phones of any potential sexter. In addition, they will be allowed to search the phone for evidence of the act and confiscate the phone as well as punish the student. Students who attend Virginia schools will be subject to the rule.

Why the crackdown on sexting? Students are in school to learn and attend classes. Cell phones really have no place in the school system to begin with but are rarely banned outright from schools. Students can use the reasoning of needing to contact friends or family to possess a phone. The crackdown on sexting came after much discussion about the distraction it was causing some students at school. The inappropriate action taking place had faculty requesting that measures be taken. Surfing the internet on the phone is one thing, but discussing and planning sexual behavior while in the schools trust is something regarded as intolerable.

We are in the early stages of the sexting intervention and it’s too soon to tell exactly how it will play out. If nothing else, the dialogue and early action on the topic has to have kids thinking twice about sending those texts. Especially since your teachers will be able to look at your phone.

There have been many advancements in computers and cell phones over the last 30 years. Since the 1970′s, wireless cell phone communication has been possible. Likewise, the technology to produce computers for the home has been around just as long, though it was originally thought that computers would generally only interest those who had business to do. Advances in the cell phone and computer industry have greatly enhanced the way we communicate. They have made it possible to reach anyone in the blink of an eye and reduced the cost of communicating. Here are two of the advancements that have enhanced the way we communicate today.

1.) Cell phones and texting- It used to be that if you weren’t near a land line, you probably were going to miss a phone call. Then in the 1970′s, the first cell phones started appearing. Even though they were quite a bit larger than the cellphones we have today, the represented a new ago of wireless communication and were seen as a status symbol. They also coincided with car phones, which would charge will plugged into a cigarette lighter or similar device in the car.

2.) Skype- While the internet and e-mail have been revolutionary in their own right regarding communication advancement, there is simply no way to overstate the importance of a program like Skype. It allows you to set up a webcam and see the person you want to talk to no matter where they are in the world and at no cost to you. Rather than flying to a destination for a meeting, you can appear via Skype and forget about the long travel, the hotels, and the cost of the trip.

Even the classics are becoming flashier, probably in an effort to match up to the newer games and to stay interesting even though everybody already knows how to play. Flashier games mean more exciting game play–and you don’t want to miss out on that!

To ensure that your computer can run any game from any online casino, you’ll need to address several things. For starters, you’ll need a good Internet connection because it is naturally vitally important for any online game. “Good” means fast as well as stable. Your computer can only run the graphics of a game as fast as your Internet connection can download the data, and if the Internet switches from high quality to low quality and back again a lot, there may be freeze-frames and other glitches that make your gaming experience less enjoyable.

Keeping your computer’s software up to date is also extremely important. The most cutting-edge games require the most current operating system and drivers in order to work. Some games may require you to download programs such as Java or Flash to play them, as well.

Last but not least, your computer’s hardware has to be up to date. For the best online casino experience, make sure your computer has the following:

Enough RAM: upgrading your RAM can give instant and dramatic improvement in how fast your computer processes data.

A good graphics card: the graphics card renders 3D imagery and certain games require newer and faster models to function well.

An efficient cooling system: the better a computer runs online games, the hotter it tends to get; multiple CPU fans might be a good idea.

The latest operating system: the newest games might not run on anything older, so stay up to date.

Follow these steps and your computer will easily handle the technical stuff so that you can have fun playing and winning!

Most people have no idea how the internet works; aside from the vague idea that it involves bouncing data off of satellites. While this rings of truth, such an oversimplification of the web takes away the significance of communications technology, such as Cisco’s most recent accomplishment: a functional space-based router.

How It Works
“Network” is a term that refers to a system of interconnected computers. These connections, wired and/or wireless, and enable the computers to communicate, sending and receiving data per user commands. However, this data is not sent in a complete form, but rather segmented by the sending computer and pieced together by the receiver.

These pieces of data, or “packets,” are transferred one-at-a-time, under the direction of a “router.” Routers determine the order and route the data travels. As the network grows, more routers are used to direct data traffic.

At a certain point a computer on this network may wish to connect to another computer on a different network. Internet Service Providers enable this connection by agreeing to link their data traffic at certain points. These points are called Network Access Points (NAPS).

But what about the satellites? The satellites are simply mirrors, catching and reflecting packets between physically distant routers. They do not actually open or direct packets–yet.

The Problems
1. The problem with this system is in its limited mobility. Wireless devices have to be within range of a receiver to access or send packets; which, in practical terms, means weak signal in your own home and no cellular service when you need it most.

2. Packets are not routed and given priority based on urgency. A streaming video, may be divided into thousands of packets, each routed through a slightly different path. The result? Slow or stuttering video for you, the viewer.

PR are important, if not the most important part of your social media, social media and public relations are synonymous of customers, clients, business, community and profit, profit is a strong word when you are mentioning PR, but is important if you want to keep your business. And keeping track of your company’s social media can save your company from going into disaster or even worse oblivion. If this might happen it is very difficult I not impossibleto come back, but as you know nothing is impossible in this modern times. You can reinvent yourself with the same essence, ideas and even projects. However keeping track of your company’s social media, it may seem quite difficult; on the other hand it may not be as you think. With the support, service, experience and knowledge advantage of tracking social media your company can thrive with information and guidance

One of the main things you need to know is where, when and how you can prevent this to materialize. Need to investigate, to survey randomly what you think is the problem to be. Nonetheless you need to keep in mind, what is what you really need. And here is where you will need the assistant of the Board members, PR are no longer a disaster or a problem. The support that the Board members can provide for your company’s social media can be back up with experience in their own PR, with personalized service, as to how and what to do for keeping track of your company’s social media. And tracking your company’s social media are only steps that can be trace back to a potential problem, one of them can be Customer Service, in how your customers are treated.

Snapstick is a new app that enables you to view web content on your television with the flick of a wrist. Designed to work with your current idevice or laptop, Snapstick requires no additional remote or keyboard. Just browse the web as you normally would, then flick, slash or karate chop your device in the direction of your tv. Voila! Full-screen content from any website.

The Creators
The Snapstick software is the result of a collaboration between Rakesh Mathur, Ash Bhardwaj and Balaji Krishnan. Can’t quite place the names? It’s not surprising since these three gents have been bumming around in the backrooms of HP, Oracle and Sun. Previous projects have led to the development of Webaroo, a mobile browsing enhancer;and Aricent, a global communications technology specialist.

Pros
1. Snapstick works with a number of devices including the iphone, ipad and laptop computer.
2. This device releases the current restrictions of the mobile web experience.
3. There is no learning curve. Snapstick does not require users to learn how to control a new piece of hardware. Your mobile device or laptop because your “visual remote.”
4. Once content has been transferred to the television, your device is free to go and fully functional; surf the web, text message and make calls as you wish.
5. Multiple phones may snap content to the same television.

Cons
1. It’s still in beta. Like bills in Congress, products can live and die in beta testing.
2. You need to own a device capable of browsing the web to use Snapstick.
3. You need to have a mobile data plan or access to a wireless network.
4. There is no shortage of videos showing the damage a plastic wii remote can do to a television screen. Your iphone is heavier, has a metal casing and is slippery.
5. Multiple phones may snap content to the same television.

Check out the demo or sign-up for BETA testing as snapstick.com.

While giving and receiving gifts is one of the highlights of the season, sometimes cause serious financial fallout occurs afterward. If sports betting sites aren’t an option to generate some cash to pay off holiday spending, then maybe you should consider harnessing the power of the Internet to start generating some serious money. The internet has enabled many regular people to generate substantial incomes by starting their own internet business.

The first thing you need to do is determine your target market. You need to find a niche of consumers willing to shell out their hard earned cash for the goods or services you’re going to offer. For example, consider the video gaming industry. There are consumers out there who are willing to pay good money for quality repairs or insider information on how to advance in a specific game. You just have to get an idea of what your target market is willing to pay for. You’ve found your market, now you have to find out what they are buying.

You want to jump right in and offer what consumers are already looking for so a piece of that already baking pie is yours. You will have to scour search engines and forums to determine what kinds of products or services your niche is looking for or asking advice on. Depending upon your target market, you have to know what media they prefer their information to come in. Some prefer internet copy and others prefer hard copy they can return to again and again. Get your product or service right in front of your consumers. The easiest way to sell an item is to get it in front of as many consumers as possible. You could be sitting back enjoying some extra income very soon.

Web content is data that is available for viewing on the internet. Content may consist of text, images, audio and video or a combination of all of these in the form of an application. In order to view this content your computer must transfer data packets from another computer through a network of routers. So would opening a web page be considered downloading or streaming?

Why Does It Matter?
Keeping track of your system’s activities is crucial to ensuring overall health. Being able to recognize the signs of an unauthorized download and distinguish it from an unwanted stream allows you to be in control of your browsing experience. Stopping unwanted processes can prevent the spread of contamination and speed system performance.

The key distinction that separates different types of transfers is the direction of packet traffic and the amount of time the information is stored on your system.

Downloading
When a file is transferred from a remote computer to your local system and saved to play on something like your vlc media player, you are downloading. Downloaded files are stored in the “Downloads” folder on the C:/ drive unless the user expressly directs them to another location. Past, current and pending downloads are visible in the downloads queue of your web browser.

Uploading
Uploading is the process by which a file is moved to a remote computer. While this may mean files are moved from your local computer to a remote location, initiating a transfer from one remote server to another is also considered uploading. No browser provides upload history. To view a record of the files you have uploaded consult the website or computer you were sending files to. For example, photographs uploaded to facebook’s server will be stored in your profile.

Sideloading
Transfers from one computer to another within a local network are called sideloads. This is because the process involves horizontal communication with little to no movement up the network hierarchy.

Streaming
Streaming content is the same as downloading, except that files are only temporarily saved on your computer. Streams are also unique in that they may be viewed before the entire file has arrived. (i.e., Data packets are viewed in segments, not as a whole.)

Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and LinkedIn has cornered the market on virtual communication. Moving beyond hobby clubs and one-to-one communication, these social networks have changed the way people meet, plan and interact. Before signing up for a social network, weigh the benefits of membership against the time and energy necessary to keeping your profiles relevant.

SOCIAL NETWORKING 101

1. DO be picky. Signing-up for every social network out there seems like a good idea because it increases your visibility and makes it easier for your friends and clients to contact you. However, over time your ability to control your brand (web image/online reputation) decreases. Unless you have a team of internet-savvy PR professionals maintaining your online reputation, sign-up for the social networks most likely to be used by your community.

2. DO manage your time wisely. Social networking is a time sapper. Even if it doesn’t take much effort, it takes a lot of time to upload media content and update posts. Set aside a time for networking and stick to it.

3. DO review security options. Every social network allows you to set your own privacy and security settings. Review the defaults. You may be sharing more information about your browsing history and preferences than you like. For example, facebook connects with Pandora and announces your musical preferences to friends who use Pandora.

4. DO consider your audience. Facebook and MySpace are networks that focus on socializing with friend and family. While businesses use these sites for advertisements, business professionals network on work-related sites such as LinkedIn.

5. DON’T post private information in a public forum. DON’T forget you are online. Some servers store copies of web content in a cached (static) form. Even if you delete inappropriate content or unsubscribe from networks, cached pages may still record your profile history.

6. DO network. Social networking is for just that–networking. Make friends, build connections and grow your web presence.

A web browser is an application that enables you to view web content. Like a window, the browser alters your online experience by framing web pages and other media. A poorly-constructed browser can affect performance negatively by exposing your system to harmful viruses, over-utilizing resources such as memory and graphics or cluttering your display. However, there are a number of browsers that boost browsing speed, offer customizable display and content options and include anti-spyware and pop-up blocking tools.

Internet Explorer (IE)
Internet explorer is a web browser that has been produced by Microsoft since 1995. Over 15 years and nine major remodels, Internet explorer has come to be the staple browser for PC users. It is loaded and automatically configured on all new Windows PCs. IE includes build in parental controls, pop-up blocker and useful add-ons which increase the functionality of other Windows programs such as MS Office. [www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/default.aspx]

Firefox
Firefox is one of the most popular downloadable browsers out to date. Produced by Mozilla, a multi-national open-source software project, Firefox is available as freeware. This means it is free to download, use and expand. There are many independent programmers (professional and amateur) that develop Firefox add-ons. These useful extensions allow you to customize your browser and enhance the functionality of specific sites such as Facebook and YouTube. All of the standard browser security features are built-in. [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/personal.html]

Chrome
Though slow to start, Google has plowed its way into every corner of the tech market. From cell phones to music, search engines to web 2.0 developments, no market is complete without a viable Google-based alternative. Google Chrome is a stream-lined browser designed to work with the other components of the Google productivity suite. Users enjoy a fully-customizable browsing session with online collaboration capabilities–all of which can be saved to your Google account and accessed from any web-enabled device. How cool is that? [www.google.com/chrome]

If you own a vehicle that has satellite radio, a navigation system, a DVD player, or other kinds of things, it’s possible that they could distract you. Of course, a standard radio, or even a conversation with a passenger could distract you, too. The more things you have in your car, though, the more likely you are to be distracted by one or more of them. You shouldn’t have to drive all alone in silence, but it’s important that you’re careful. Satellite and networking capabilities have increased so much today that it’s not surprising that people have more distractions then they used to. It’s up to them to manage those distractions the right way.

To avoid distracted driving and other problems that come up when people overuse technology, be aware of your surroundings. Even if you’re not driving, too much technology can distract you from your duties at work or at home. That can lead to problems with your boss, your kids, and your spouse. That doesn’t mean that satellite and network communications aren’t good or that they should be avoided. They provide a lot of joy and they’re also helpful to many businesses and households in a multitude of ways. The key is to use them wisely.

Set a time limit for things like Internet use or for how often you text or do other technology-related things. Do the same for other people in your household. That way you aren’t so distracted, and you can also appreciate and enjoy the technology more when you do use it. You won’t get overwhelmed with it or feel like it’s controlling your life, and you can use it the way it was intended – as something that can help you and bring you enjoyment.

Due to complaints from consumer advocacy groups, the Obama administration has created a subcommittee to discuss regulations for privacy issues relating to the Internet. The subcommittee will utilize expertise from individuals with various backgrounds in legislative and governmental issues and will focus on finding ways to improve the privacy of Internet users.

Currently, phishing for information remains one of the biggest challenges for Internet users, and it affects people in a variety of ways, including on social sites, through emails, and through advertisements. Phishing works by collecting private information from user accounts. This information can include a person full name, physical address, email address, phone number, and credit card number. In some cases, phishing even captures social security numbers.

Other complaints center around a number of privacy breeches generated by the Internet. One of Google’s programs, Street view, was collecting information from residential wireless networks. A recent study found thousands of privacy violations with Facebook, which reported a third-party application was snatching user information from account users.

The subcommittee will act to try to find a way to stop these violations from occurring. Christopher Schroeder from the Justice Department and Cameron Kerry from the Commerce Department will lead the subcommittee. Currently, two bills are before the House. They propose making it voluntary for websites to collect private information rather than mandatory. This would at least shift the responsibility to users rather than websites.

Part of the issue will also stem on finding a balance between the needs of users and the needs of businesses. For example, Amazon and other leading websites use information from users to help target ads. This tends to generate more revenue from the ads because consumers are often more attracted to local ads than national ones.

The impact this new subcommittee will have on Internet privacy is unknown at this point in time, but for now, many consider this a step in the right direction.

It was meant to be an idle search, a rare waste of hours, as your duties as a parent leave you with little time for indulgences. Too often you must ignore all thrills, dedicating yourself instead to the needs of your family. The notion of simply scrolling through networking sites is unfamiliar (but no less wanted), but suddenly you find yourself doing just that. Blogs are read. Message boards are examined. And, when a whim leads you finally to seek out an old acquaintance, you are amazed by what you find: post after post is filled to their name. Your friend is online.

And you begin to realize what this can mean.

The concept of social networking is one too often dominated by youth. Individuals believe it to be only for teens and their obsessions, the trade of music and secret jokes. But this idea can have far greater implications, and stay at home mothers should understand just how those implications can be applied to them.

There are endless ways to connect online. The use of social media software (such as networking websites and communities) allow users to seek each other out, discovering shared interests and experiences. Past friends can reunite, separated families can meet again, and strangers can become close companions with hobbies bonding even the most disparate of personalities.

This is invaluable for mothers who have little time to leave their homes, who must instead stay near their children. Obligations can’t be refused. Affection can’t be denied. Their schedule is simply too crowded for outside adventures, but this does not include the ones found within a computer. A monitor can become a much needed gateway.

Gaining relationships is essential for all individuals. Social media simply makes it easy. Through the tap of a keyboard the world can be revealed, and parents will then discover easy conversations and far easier rewards.

As a person with experience in satellites, Adrian McCarten will be heading the helm for Deluxe Australia as it works to incorporate a satellite plan. McCarten will work as the Digital Content Distribution Executive for Deluxe Australia, which is a part of the Deluxe Entertainment Service Group, Inc. MacAndrews & Forbes Holdings Inc. owns the group, which provides services for the entertainment industry and technologies to a variety of international clients. Deluxe Group works with major Hollywood Studios and offers motion picture film processing, DVD compression, EFILM digital intermediates, digital asset management, printing and distribution, digital cinema services, and other aspects to help the entertainment industry do its job.

McCarten will be leading a team to add satellite plans to the company’s portfolio. The goal is to prepare for theaters in Australia and Asia that will be using digitally equipped theaters and satellite services. The division McCarten joins already offers a variety of services, including mastering, reversioning, replication, hard-drive distribution, and Digital Cinema Packaging (DCP). The management aspects will work with Hollywood studio customers in the Asia Pacific, Australia, and New Zealand. McCarten will maintain operations from Sydney, Australia.

Under the current plan for the satellites, Deluxe will use the system to send special programs to the theaters equipped with digital receivers and equipment. These programs can include live events, special programs, traditional movies, 3D feature films, or other content delivered for entertainment purposes.

This new initiative is part of Deluxe Entertainment Services Group’s plan to build a satellite network for theaters in several countries, including Canada and the U.S. The company also entered an agreement with Echostar Corporation to help accomplish this goal. Deluxe London has a similar agreement with Argiva to cover the European market.

The global reach for this project is another reason why Deluxe went with McCarten to lead the project—he has a global network specific to satellites that the company hopes to utilize.

People love new apps, and as soon as one pops up, they typically download it as fast as possible just to give it a try. Many new programs are fun, while others are tools. Regardless of where you classify Google’s Street Views, there’s one thing almost everybody agrees on. The program has a fatal glitch that violates an individual’s right to privacy.

Many in the U.S. are familiar with this debate, especially as Obama formed a new subcommittee to tackle the difficult issue. In the U.S. the matter hinges on the rights of the manufacturer or website versus the rights of the individuals. This may not be the case in Britain, where the parliament is meeting to consider an Internet bill that will protect its citizens.

The issue with Google’s Street Views occurred when the program accidentally started collecting information it should have left alone. A glitch in the program allowed it to collect data from personal Wi-Fi devices in people’s homes, transporting private information along with its street views.

With the current realization of just how easy it can be to violate a person’s privacy using the Internet, the parliament will need to determine how to handle the situation. Some propose creating a society to oversee Internet Privacy, thereby taking the burden away from parliament to issue a state action for every issue. This society would work in a similar fashion to the British Law Society. Others believe self-regulation would be a mistake as it allows too much room for error. After all, once information gets out on the Internet, it can be impossible to recover.

Case in point, Google’s little glitch resulted in email accounts, passwords, and URLs stored on unencrypted Wi-Fi devices. Imagine all that information in the hands of cyber criminals rather than a website company. That’s not a pleasant thought.

Harris Corporation will continue to offer both maintenance and operational support to the Air Force for its Network and Space Operations and Maintenance Program. The extension brings Harris a $64 million option for its third year with the program. For those who want to keep track, that amounts to over $200 million that Harris has earned as a result of its contract for the program.

The company mainly works to support the Air Force’s satellite control program, specifically the 50th Space Wing’s program, at locations throughout the world. Schriever Air Force Base, located near Colorado Springs, Colorado, hosts the AFSCN program that carries out the launch, operation, and controls of space programs under the management of Defense Department. It also maintains satellites for the program. These programs directly impact national security.

As part of Harris’s job, the company will work with teams from different organizations, including Avaya Government Solutions, Lockheed Martin Information Technology, ASRC Aerospace, Gunther Douglas, Faith Enterprises Inc., and Arctic Slope World Services. Together the Harris team will work with the Satellite Control Network to manage control centers, track worldwide stations, and conduct tests. These tests will ensure facilities maintain the proper communication levels with satellites in orbit and stationed around the world.

By taking such an active role, the government can ensure the process remains smooth and operational. Under the original contract, Harris still has three one-year options left. The initial agreement provided for a six-month base followed by one-year options until 2014. If Harris keeps the contract for the entire time, it will see a value of $416.

Based on the renewal of the option, the U.S. can rest assured that Harris has proven to be competent in handling this aspect of national security. The one-year options also help to ensure the company will continue to do its job, because its future work depends on it.

This is especially true when it comes to downloading software online. It is a fact that many computers become infected when executable files are downloaded. However, it is possible to download software easily and safely.

The first step is to identify sites that are known to be safe when it comes to downloading software. Looking for reviews of safe download sites is a good place to start. Getting information from others who frequently download software is also helpful.

There are various types of software that can be downloaded from the Internet. Some are free, while others are shareware and quite a few have to be purchased. They all have their advantages and disadvantages. Deciding on which site to download from is dependent on your needs and the type of software wanted.

Popular software that is downloaded includes games and programs that can be tweaked for use with other programs. With the advent of the Smartphone, many applications are now being downloaded for these high-tech devices.

Regardless of the purpose, at some time or the other the need to download software arises. It may be as simple as upgrading a program, getting a trial version of an application to review. Knowing where and how to do so safely should be the number one priority.

Thankfully, there are websites dedicated solely to reviewing software and software download sites. When it comes to software download, it is never advisable to download from sites that you are not sure about. If there is any doubt about the safety of downloading from a site, follow your guts feeling. It is always better to be safe than sorry when it come to PC safety.

So, you’ve decided that you want to try to install your satellite internet yourself. This is an admirable task, and certainly will be a challenge for you, unless you’re a trained and licensed technician. Whether you were looking for an interesting hardware project to spend your day on, or simply wanted to save some money on installation, there are a few tips that you can follow in order to make your life easier:

Check your coordinates. Okay, now check them again. Done? Okay, one more time.

Your internet speed is going to rely completely on the coordinates that you’re using, and how accurately you configure them. The coordinates indicate an appropriate line of sight between the receiver and the orbiting satellite itself. A poor coordinate configuration will lead to little or no internet connectivity. If you don’t have coordinates, then you will want to contact your internet service provider in order to find them. Save this information in case you need to adjust it later.

Don’t get set on one installation location.

Sometimes trying to install the satellite receiver in the first place that seems convenient is a less than good idea. Sometimes it’s like trying to fit a square block through a triangle hole. Check out multiple potential areas for installation within your immediate location in order to find the right one for you. Be aware of natural features that may get in the way of connection, including how easily animals could topple the receiver itself.

Prepare your tools beforehand.

This isn’t a project for the handy person who only have a hammer in their belt pouch. You’re going to need drill bits of different sizes, a screw driver, and pliers at the ready.

Get educated on installation.

If your internet provider didn’t send you a pamphlet or installation guide, track one down. Once you have a guide, be sure to read it. Incorrectly connecting plugs, cables, or antenna will do more than make the installation more difficult. It can completely destroy your costly receiver equipment.

It is undeniable that Satellite internet is faster than dial-up in essentially every way. Satellite is also more accessible in remote locations, including in rural portions of the world that have no chance of DSL or Broadband deals, and even on RVs. However, it is also undeniable that not every internet based utility will work appropriately with Satellite. So, what does work on Satellite, and what doesn’t?

Things that Don’t Work

Satellite internet has a one word problem. “Latency.” Gamers are likely to know this term by the slang version, “lag.” This latency is the delay between the receiver requesting data and the satellite sending it down, across those twenty-three thousand miles between the two. The delay is really very minor, ranging from about 520 milliseconds to 840 milliseconds. In other words, it never even reaches a full second of delay. However, even this fraction of a second prevent certain activities.

Voice chatting and video chatting programs simply won’t work in this way, since the delay causes overlap issues that prevent the real time processing from functioning. Any real time program that requires real time internet access to function will be similarly hindered. Video games often fall into this category, especially if it is a multi player shooter, or any other game which requires real time response. Certain video games, such as MMORPGs, can be played with some effectiveness, although certain areas of the game will become either frustrating or impossible.

Things that Work

So, latency provides a major issue, but what happens outside the latency? Once the connection is established and the data is sent, the internet speed is comparable to broadband. This means that page load times will be low, but extended by the fraction of a second delay mentioned above, and that long downloads will be completed just as fast as they would be on broadband. Anything that doesn’t require a real time connection will function just fine, with that small delay being the only disadvantage of satellite when compared to broadband.

Educational providers have learned that catering to the schedule of the adult learner is a win-win situation. Schools want full classes and adult learners want options that mesh smoothly with their time constraints. If you still think distance learning means dry texts and boring assignments arriving by snail mail, it’s time to take a fresh look at an online school.

An Educational Delivery Package for the New Millennium
Worldwide connectivity has revolutionized education. Grade schools, junior and senior high schools, colleges, and universities have all taken advantage of the Internet to provide outstanding educational opportunities to their students. Class choice is almost limitless. Looking for a foreign language class that your high school or university doesn’t offer? Chances are your adviser can help you find an accredited online class that will fill your need. Web conferencing, class-specific chat lines, and teleconferencing are tools used in a synchronous online learning environment. Emails, blogs, threaded discussions, and forums are all part of the toolbox found in an asynchronous online education. Most schools offer a blend of both styles to best meet the educational needs of their students.

Get That Degree
Time constraints can be a major roadblock to adult learners. Knowing that a degree or professional certification greatly improves your marketability does not make it any easier to actually carve out the time to earn one. Online learning is the answer. Hundreds of accredited degree and professional certification programs are available–24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Scheduling classes to suit your schedule is a breeze. Complete classes according to your timetable. You can take a year to complete a class or accelerate your learning, completing degree requirements in a much shorter amount of time.

If acquiring additional education through online schooling is something you are considering, take some time to browse the Web. You will discover your educational goals are within your grasp.

There are many forms of internet these days. Broadband connections in the form of DSL, Cable, and Satellite Internet can be found almost anywhere, and even Dial-up is hanging on like a mutant zombie. However, the advances in internet connection types and speed have made understanding the data transfer speeds more complex. Here is a brief guide on understanding the applicable terms.

Bits vs Bytes

All internet services will brag about their speed, and will let you know the maximum rate of transfer for data. This is frequently displayed in the X mbps form, where X indicates the number of “megabits per second.” This is confusing for many users, since “bits” are not the same as “bytes.” The term is no longer used frequently in other computer based technologies, and the exchange rate between bit and byte are no longer memorized. The simple story is that, before there were bytes, there were bits. This was when kilobytes were still a distant dream. A bit is just one-eighth the size of a byte. In order to find the maximum rate of transfer for your provider, all you have to do is divided those mbps by eight. The result is the maximum speed that a file can upload or download onto your computer, in megabytes.

Up vs Down

While your internet provider will brag about very high maximum speeds, it’s important to understand that this isn’t the speed for everything you do. Generally speaking, it’s the maximum speed for downloads, and uploads will be significantly slower. There is no set rule for how fast your downloads will be compared to your uploads, such as to FTP servers, in networking, or to voice chats. You will have to contact your ISP directly for the information.

Bandwidth vs Lag

Another common mistake that standard internet users make is to confused latency with bandwidth limitations. Latency, or the amount of time it takes your data to transfer to and from your ISP and/or router, creates an initial delay known as “lag.” Bandwidth limitations create ongoing slowness due to a lack of data streams from your internet provider.

Computers are an integral part of our daily lives on almost every level. We use them for personal reasons to email and send funny text files. We also use them for business reasons at our jobs to send business documents and communicate with customers. Our daily lives involve computers in almost every facet including the following ones:

Retail shops and grocery stores use computers to ring up purchases.

Students use them at schools and colleges and for home use in pursuing online undergraduate programs for degrees.

Entertainment sources (television, DVDs) now offer online services.

Even our communication devices (cell phones, PDAs, laptops) are computer-oriented and used for many daily routines.

The Convenience of the Internet

The Internet has evolved quickly, making computers a common item in most all homes, schools, libraries, and churches. There are even retail establishments like coffee houses and public facilities that offer wireless Internet connection for their customers to use while they enjoy their visit to the business’s establishment.

The Internet is accessible almost everywhere and makes life very convenient for many people. Now people don’t have to wait until they get home to check their emails or check the stock reports. Technology has also advanced along with the Internet developments, and software exists that can make computers and Internet connections run faster and smoother. The accessibility of the Internet has made life easier and simpler from a technological aspect.

Organizing and Goal Setting Using Computers

Using computers as a mechanism for goal-setting is ideal for individuals who want to keep their life as clutter-free as possible. Online calendars can replace little bits of paper for appointments. There is computer software that users can load onto their computers that will track their goals and generate to-do lists. This tool makes things even easier for those people who value the convenience of computers.

Coupons aside, you can also afford to get the best internet connectivity from Dell without these handy discounts, because their products are priced reasonably. If you are not in the market for a new laptop or desktop computer this year, there are other means of juicing up your connection rate that won’t cost quite as much as an entirely new system. In this economy, every penny saved is a good idea.

If you have your installed software, such as games and self-service tax applications, set to update on a regular basis, these programs may actually slow your connection down substantially. With just one or two programs updating at a given time, you could find your remaining internet capacity reduced to as little as 50% of its usual performance. When you want to download a large file, such as a high definition film, it’s of vital importance to remember to shut-down these annoying background applications.

Installing a good firewall can help your computer to perform at optimal levels, as it will prevent unwanted malware and spy-ware from installing onto your system, and running when you’re not aware. These viruses and malware applications can slow down your system, and cause opening windows to flash as they attempt to load. An updated anti-virus program can find and remove or quarantine these harmful applications, and might keep your personal information from being stolen, too.

Check your Application Manager frequently to figure out which programs are using the largest percentage of your computers available performance strength. You may find that harmless programs, like a P2P client, may be affecting your internet connectivity rate, and the rate at which your system downloads information.

Whether it’s cellular phones, wireless printers, computers, routers, or one of a thousand other things, the truth is that most Americans own several completely wireless devices. The wireless internet war, thus far, has been fought mostly between hardware companies providing routers, as well as internet service providers trying to prove that they have the best wireless possibilities around. Now, a new competitor has entered the hardware and service arena: cell phone providers.

Cell phone companies initially offered the internet connection for phones through their data network, but realizing the lucrative possibilities, moved into offering it for computers as well. The problem with this move is that the internet that was being provided was as slow as slow – almost as bad as dial-up, even. It has been evolving at a rapid pace over the last few years, progressing to what is known as 3G. 3G, which allows for transfer speeds that are substantially higher than dial-up, but substantially lower than most broadband services, became the first subscription based fully mobile wireless that saw true success. Still, it didn’t make much of a dent in a marketplace that was so fully owned by Broadband companies.

Enter 4G. As of the 2009 release of 4G Sprint wireless access cards, followed by the 2010 release of Sprint’s first 4G phone, titled the Evo, the wireless world is changing yet again. The speeds of cellular wireless access have quintupled, allowing for rates of transfer that are similar to current broadband connections. Wireless access cards or enabled 4G devices allow for computers, phones, and any other connected devices to get in touch with the internet from anywhere that is set up for 4G.

There are still drawbacks within 4G networks. They may be cheaper than Broadband, and just as fast, but they require expensive software, and only work in select areas where 4G cell sites have been installed. While this advance indicates a paradigm shift on the horizon, it will still be several years before cellular access is fully competitive with broadband.

For anyone who is in love with technology, there are certain implied laws of the internet. It HAS to be fast. It HAS to be reliable. And thou shalt NOT pirate movies on Limewire when someone else in the house is trying to game, because high lag is the equivalent of a mortal sin. With new advances, especially those of the 2009 and 2010 years, there is a new law of the web: synchronize or die.

Synchronizing can happen in many different ways and for many different types of data. You can instantly transfer your contacts, email information, calendar information, documents, files, and more. But where are you transferring it to or from? The answer these days seems to be: anywhere.

The trend began with mobile devices being integrated with Bluetooth. Bluetooth connections from a computer to a cellular phone allowed the handset to get information from the computer’s calendar, Outlook, and other programs. It became such a popular addition that it was centralized in the focus of future designs.

However, Bluetooth and direct access to the room your computer is stored in would really be asking too much of tech users. Synchronizing has been combined with cloud computing in order to offer an even better, faster, broader, and more thorough solution. Cloud computing, or internet programming that stores account based software and data on the web allows users to connect to the same information, files, and more, wherever they’re accessing it from.

A few example of items that can synchronize like this include: mobile handsets with WiFi access, tablet computers such as the ever splendid iPad, Mac or PC laptop computers, PDAs, and Mac or PC desktops. A few examples of applications that can synchronize include: Google Calendar, various email services, most Microsoft services, online documents through Word 2010 or Google Docs., and more.

While this trend may not yet be a law worthy of capital punishment for most internet users, it is certainly increasing in its importance. After all, the integration of wireless internet synchronization hardware and software on all new mobile devices is a sure sign of things to come.

When most of us were young, we were told that in order to be successful and make a decent living we have to go to college and get a good, stable job. By a “good and stable job,” our mentors were referring to a “traditional” job. A traditional job is one that requires a person to actually leave the house and go to an office and work traditional 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. business hours. However, it is now the year 2010 and, thanks to the internet, having a traditional job is no longer necessary in order to be successful.

Every day, more and more people are finding creative ways to make money using the internet. While the majority of people still hold down a traditional job, the fact is that many of these same people are beginning to see that the internet has the ability to help them earn some extra money. Not only can people earn extra money with the help of the internet, but with enough drive and hard work, the internet can even help them earn a full-time income from home!

There are countless money-making opportunities for you on the internet. For example, you can make money with internet marketing, selling things on eBay with small cash loans for the packing materials and shipping expenses. Upgrading your gift basket making into a website for you present and future clients to see reviews, photos, and all your products. The most important thing you need to do before deciding to make money online is to study yourself. Try to find a way to turn your hobby or passion into an online business.

While making money with the internet is a fun and exciting idea it still requires work, which is why you need to find your passion. For example, if you love to write then you should explore the world of freelance writing, or if you enjoy making hair bows for little girls, then you should investigate creating a website and selling them online. You can make money online, but without passion, you aren’t likely to have the long-lasting motivation required to make a profit online.

Everyone’s life gets crazy. When you just can’t think straight anymore, use these four steps to staying sane.

Time. Take time to breathe. Every day, you should have ten to fifteen minutes of time to yourself to collect yourself and refresh. Their should be no ifs or buts about it—without it, you won’t stay sane at all. If Baby goes down for a nap, first take 10 minutes to yourself before rushing off to clean. If you’re a planner who schedules your day to the last half-hour, leave at least one half-hour slot open. This will give you more leeway in case you run behind, and allow you to feel less rushed and feel able to take those ten minutes you need.

Place. It is important to have a safe place you can run to that energizes you. If you have a garden, go walk around in it. If you really love your porch, sit on the swing. If incomplete projects bother you, try to create one space where everything is done—even if its just the wall-papered powder room downstairs. If messes bother you, clean one corner of a room and sit with your back to the rest of the mess.

Action. Once you are in a place that calms and energizes you (or at least doesn’t make you more anxious), do something you enjoy. Pick up your favorite book and read your favorite part, or do a little crocheting. If you still need calming, put in a good cd, close your eyes and listen to it. Lay on the floor and relax. Meditate or pray. Do whatever will relax you and release the tension that has built up over the day.

Be Thankful. Focus on what you have to be grateful for—a nice neighborhood, a good family, a job at all. Try pulling out old pictures and remembering good times you’ve have and be thankful for them. Remember the people in your life who support you.

These simple ways to distress might just be enough to help you keep your head in your crazy day.

Everyone has great stories from their children. What are some of the most endearing things children do? They tell you they love you more than their special stuffed animal or toy (you know, the one they can’t fall asleep without).

They’ll even risk a scolding in order to spend time with you. Your little boy will sneak downstairs (after him and his brothers were put to bed), just because he wants more time with you and your family. And sure, he’s supposed to be asleep, but all he’s doing is curling up next to you while you talk with your brother and his wife. And with his shock of red hair, blue eyes, and shy little smile, you just can’t send him away.

It’s so amazing to see children’s creativity and knowledge growing, too. One girl will just love taking pictures. As a toddler, you’ll be able to see her mind working as you show her how to aim the camera and take a picture. When you upgrade and let her help you take a picture with your nicer camera, you’ll get to see her amazement and excitement at the flash that pops up and makes a loud “click,” and you’ll get to help her learn to aim the camera by herself, and teach her how to be careful with it.

Sometimes the most endearing things they do will be so artless and unconsciously affectionate. They’ll hover close by you when around new people because they know you are the one who keeps them safe. They’ll show you around their make-believe house, or they’ll reach up and give you a big kiss goodnight.

Some stories and times might be crazy or even unpleasant, like the little girl who pees on the hardwood floor and then stomps in it with her Sunday shoes, but then she’ll bring you a bouquet of flowers from the yard and melt your heart. And in the end, it is not so much what your child does that makes you love them, it’s simply the fact that they are yours.

There are many reasons why rural areas are appealing. They have a certain solitude, a privacy, and a community feel that you often won’t find in big cities. Having a fast internet connection, however, is not one of the draws of rural life. But what if you’ve decided to live a little further from civilization and you don’t want to give up reliable internet? Here are a few solid options.

Dial-up. Yes, it’s true, dial-up is slower than almost any other option. However, dial-up is also faster than you may remember. In an attempt to stay alive while DSL and Cable are conquering the market, dial-up providers have made some upgrades. New hardware, as well as new technology known as “data compression,” allow for connections two to three times faster than they were before. Plus, their prices have dropped so much that they border on free. While it isn’t exactly “blazing fast,” dial-up is more likely to meet the needs of the casual user than ever.

Wireless. Even if you’re out of range of DSL connections, you may be able to take advantage of DSL connections of neighboring areas. There are wireless transmission towers that connect with DSL internet service, and is then beamed to your home through a short-range wireless satellite. While not the most reliable option, you retain a lot of the speed, and it costs about the same as DSL or Cable internet.

Satellite. Satellite internet connections are faster and more affordable than ever. With down and up speeds that slaughter dial-up, more intense internet users may find this option to be ideal. The prices on satellite connection have also lowered dramatically in recent years, dropping to about the cost of DSL connections. There are some latency issues here, and the equipment is costly, but its universal availability make it one of the best rural options.

Cellular. If you have cell phone service, you can also get internet connection. Many of the major cell phone companies, including Sprint, Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile, have a mobile net option that, while somewhat slow, may meet your needs.

When googling “baby gadgets,” the search engine returns with over 20 million results. Apart from that there are dozens of network news stores dedicated strictly to finding the most amazing and ingenious toys and contraptions to keep your baby happy, healthy, and safe. Network news is always reporting about recalls, good baby choices–these news stories are so important.

Baby bouncers and swings are probably the most common items found in people’s homes. Baby bouncers can now come with music, or can automatically swing or rock by themselves. Strollers, too, are more hi-tech, with remote-control brakes to stop a runaway stroller, or even climate controlled strollers that ensure that your baby never gets to warm or cold.

Cribs and bottles are two other baby staples that can be updated. Now cribs can be climate controlled as well, or even portable. One crib now on the market is based off of a hospital incubator and given handles and wheels for easy mobility. Bottles, too, can now detect temperature and let you know if your baby formula is too hot or cold.

As for safety, every supplier has a packet of baby-proof locks for cabinets and stove top knobs, as well as cushions for sharp corners. New devices are appearing, though, such as a helmet for toddlers that will protect them when they trip and fall.

There are even cutting edge baby monitors that tell you why your baby is crying. WhyCryÒ is a brand that will interpret your baby’s crying into one of several reasons, including hunger, stress, or irritation. Even the iphone has an application for keeping an eye on your little one; one application will call you when it hears your baby cry, and another app claims to be able to translate its cry as well.

Education can begin even younger now with programs that claim to teach your baby to read, or computer programs and television shows that entertain and educate your infant at the same time. Other advanced or unique toys are the plushies of extinct animals, and the origami paper planes (although these might be more interesting to a parent instead of their baby!)
