The future of satellite communications looks promising. Satellites will become the backbone of telecommunications. Doing away cable, optic fibers, and other modes of data-line infrastructure, the future seems headed for satellite based communications.

As mobile phones need to get faster and smarter, it needs able supporting infrastructure. Existing infrastructure may be augmented to support this need. But it is limited. With satellite communications, opportunities for speed and efficiency are unlimited.

Satellites have been around for long, since the 1960s. The use of satellites then was not considered. High costs were detrimental for the development of satellite technology. Satellites were huge, heavy, and every expensive to put into orbit.

But things have changed. Now cost is overseen by the benefits satellites offer to communication providers. Satellites are able to provide faster radio signal processing. The digital revolution has created the need for satellites. Satellite television for example, is an example of how satellites are used to stream television channels.

Mobile telephony has increased in adoption. Now everyone has a mobile. Even a beggar does. With a surge in demand for communications, there is also pressure on service providers to provide infrastructure to handle this demand. Which means networks have to be expanded.

Telecommunications providers do not want to lose out on markets. Their lack of physical presence, in terms of communications infrastructure in these regions, means they have lost out on a jackpot. Over here, satellite-based communication is a saving grace.

Satellite-based services will only increase in the coming decades. In tune with the change, devices will change. We may have different looking television sets, and mobile phones.

Everyone is always looking for the best when it comes to the Internet. Many people don’t know a lot about satellite and while it’s used mostly for people who work from remote places, it can be a great way to get Internet if high speed isn’t available in your area. Here are a few tips on subscribing to satellite Internet.

You’d be surprised at the amount of satellite plans available to you so having some sort of a budget will be very beneficial to you. When you’re thinking about how much to spend, think about whether or not you’re looking for just the Internet or Internet and phone service. A great way to save money is by purchasing a bundle with your Internet and television provider.

With satellite Internet it’s important to make sure that your house or business has a perfect a clear of the sky and facing the south. This will give your satellite the best connection. Not having this clear view can create problems with your satellite Internet service.

One quick way to know if you can have satellite Internet is based on whether or not you’re able to get satellite television in your area. If you answer no to this question than you won’t be able to get satellite Internet.

Before choosing an Internet satellite company, do your research online. Find out what people are saying about the company. You want a provider that’s reliable and won’t have any issues with.

Consider what plans the companies are offering in your price range before signing a contract. Once a contract has been purchased a technician in your area will come to your house or office to install your satellite dish as well as your modem for the Internet.

Getting your satellite dish can be a really simple task if you know exactly what you’re looking for. Do your research and make sure that satellite Internet is available in your area beforehand.

Online casinos offer dozens of great games for you to choose from. Even the classics are becoming flashier, probably in an effort to match up to the newer games and to stay interesting even though everybody already knows how to play. Flashier games mean more exciting game play–and you don’t want to miss out on that!

To ensure that your computer can run any game from any online casino, you’ll need to address several things. For starters, you’ll need a good Internet connection because it is naturally vitally important for any online game. “Good” means fast as well as stable. Your computer can only run the graphics of a game as fast as your Internet connection can download the data, and if the Internet switches from high quality to low quality and back again a lot, there may be freeze-frames and other glitches that make your gaming experience less enjoyable.

Keeping your computer’s software up to date is also extremely important. The most cutting-edge games require the most current operating system and drivers in order to work. Some games may require you to download programs such as Java or Flash to play them, as well.

Last but not least, your computer’s hardware has to be up to date. For the best online casino experience, make sure your computer has the following:

Enough RAM: upgrading your RAM can give instant and dramatic improvement in how fast your computer processes data.

A good graphics card: the graphics card renders 3D imagery and certain games require newer and faster models to function well.

An efficient cooling system: the better a computer runs online games, the hotter it tends to get; multiple CPU fans might be a good idea.

The latest operating system: the newest games might not run on anything older, so stay up to date.

Follow these steps and your computer will easily handle the technical stuff so that you can have fun playing and winning!

Setting up a wireless network for the Internet is a pretty simple task to do. All that’s needed is a wireless router that you will connect to the Internet. If it’s not included with the computer, you might need wireless cards.

To hook up your wireless high speed Internet, simply take the main source of the Internet provider and connect that to your modem, whether it’s a cable or phone jack.

Take your Ethernet cable and plug it into the output of your wireless router. Then take your router, plug it in and turn it on.

To configure your router, follow the manual that was included. This is where you’re going to log onto your ISP address and use the username and password given to you when the Internet was set up.

Next you’ll pick the name for your network and password. This is where you’re going to decide if you want to use your Wi-Fi, Mac computers automatically come with this feature, or your Wireless encryption.

To get into the wireless network settings from your computer, go to your control panel menu. You can also just right-click the icon on your task bar. Click on the option that says, “view available wireless networks” and find your network. Go ahead and hit “connect” and put in your username and password.

Finally, open up your Internet browser to make sure that you’ve successfully connected to the Internet.

Hooking up your wireless high speed Internet might seem like a difficult and tricky task, but it really isn’t. Simply follow the instructions and you’ll be on your way to having the best high-speed Internet connection. If you run into trouble along the way, contact your Internet provider, they’ll guide you until you’ve got your Internet up and running.

Satellite Internet is basically using satellite technology in order to get the Internet. With satellite there are three parts, first is the satellite itself, then there are two modems and coaxial cables, which runs to the modem from your satellite. The hub is where the Internet signal will begin. This signal then gets sent to the satellite dish that’s currently orbiting the Earth from you dish. Your coaxial cables will be connected into your dish, which is used to run your Internet signal to your router. From there it goes to the computer.

Most of the time Internet companies using satellite will use IP multitasking technology. The problem many people had with dial-up was that it couldn’t handle a ton of bandwidth all at once. With multitasking technology the satellite can actually have 5,000 users at the same time on one satellite. Another plus is that it will compress information files, which will let even more data be sent at the same time.

To have satellite Internet all that’s needed is the correct equipment. Another important requirement is having perfect view of the southern sky. Having a clear line between both the dish and the orbiting satellite is important because that strong, clear shot will give you the best Internet connection since you’re relying on that signal in order to connect to the Internet.

There are some benefits of using satellite Internet. It’s great for active people who are always on the move or in areas where cable Internet isn’t available just yet. Satellite Internet is also will also give you 10 times more speed than dial-up.

Even though satellite is faster than dial-up, it’s still slower than cable. It’s more limited to the amount of traffic that the dish can handle at once, causing the Internet to be slow during the time when the Internet is the busiest.

It’s always best to do some research before deciding if satellite Internet is right for you.

While many people choose between DSL and cable, there is another option available to you. Your third option would be using a satellite to connect to the Internet.

There is some good news about setting up a satellite Internet connection… it’s super easy! Switching over to satellite and setting up the connection is no different than setting up your DSL or cable Internet. For those looking to make the switch to satellite, here are a few simple steps to follow.

First decide which satellite provider you want to go with. Find out which service providers are available for you and choose a few you feel have the best coverage at the most affordable price. Keep in mind that prices could vary depending on your location. Majority of the satellite television service providers will offer Internet service. If you’re with the Dish Network or Direct TV, give them a call to see if they offer satellite Internet and for how much. They might even offer a great deal since you have satellite TV.

Now you’ll want to set up your account. You will need to set up an appointment for a technician from the company to install and set up the satellite Internet in your home. The technician will install, calibrate and wire the satellite modem to the dish, which will allow you to connect your computer to the dish.

Next take a router and connect it to your satellite Internet. The router is used for those with multiple computers sharing the Internet. If there’s just one computer in the home, the router won’t be necessary. In that case, just run your Ethernet cable to the satellite modem and you’re good to go!

Setting up satellite Internet is not much different than setting up your DSL or cable. Just know there are many different options for you when it comes to the Internet.

Most people have no idea how the internet works; aside from the vague idea that it involves bouncing data off of satellites. While this rings of truth, such an oversimplification of the web takes away the significance of communications technology, such as Cisco’s most recent accomplishment: a functional space-based router.

How It Works
“Network” is a term that refers to a system of interconnected computers. These connections, wired and/or wireless, and enable the computers to communicate, sending and receiving data per user commands. However, this data is not sent in a complete form, but rather segmented by the sending computer and pieced together by the receiver.

These pieces of data, or “packets,” are transferred one-at-a-time, under the direction of a “router.” Routers determine the order and route the data travels. As the network grows, more routers are used to direct data traffic.

At a certain point a computer on this network may wish to connect to another computer on a different network. Internet Service Providers enable this connection by agreeing to link their data traffic at certain points. These points are called Network Access Points (NAPS).

But what about the satellites? The satellites are simply mirrors, catching and reflecting packets between physically distant routers. They do not actually open or direct packets–yet.

The Problems
1. The problem with this system is in its limited mobility. Wireless devices have to be within range of a receiver to access or send packets; which, in practical terms, means weak signal in your own home and no cellular service when you need it most.

2. Packets are not routed and given priority based on urgency. A streaming video, may be divided into thousands of packets, each routed through a slightly different path. The result? Slow or stuttering video for you, the viewer.

In the business world, it’s usually a smart idea to take advantage of a good thing while it lasts. That’s one reason why many are surprised that Thales Alenia Space will not be entering the bidding war for the manufacturing of the Turksat 4A and 4B, which are the latest telecommunications satellites in development with Turkey’s Turksat. Most of the previous spacecraft developed by Turksat went on to manufacturing at Thales Alenia Space.

With the most commonly used manufacturer out of the picture, other companies are jumping at the chance to win the bid, and Turksat has reported it has received the best-and-final offers from all bidders hoping to get in on the deal. Companies that have turned in bids include Japan-based Mitsubishi Electric Corp, the United States’ Lockheed Martin Space Systems, and the United States’ Orbital Science.

As of the end of October 2010, Turksat was already over due to announce the winner of the bid, which could push its plans to have the new satellite telecommunication devices in place by 2012. The companies vying for the bid will have to wait and see whether the delay affects Turksat’s timetable.

Orbital Sciences is a company based in Dulles, VA. It has worked with Thales Alenia Space in the past, but the manufacturing project would be the first time the company has won on its own, should Turksat pick them. Orbital will also be competing head-on with Astrium, which has partnered with the Indian Space Research Organization, for small telecommunications satellites. Astrium’s product hasn’t raised much interest in the market yet.

If Lockheed Martin secures the project, it would be one step toward the company’s plan to increase its profile in the commercial satellite market. The company has not announced contingency plans connected to this yet, but may should they fail to get the project.

In a bidding war with no answer, the only thing certain is that it won’t be Thales Alenia Space.

It was meant to be an idle search, a rare waste of hours, as your duties as a parent leave you with little time for indulgences. Too often you must ignore all thrills, dedicating yourself instead to the needs of your family. The notion of simply scrolling through networking sites is unfamiliar (but no less wanted), but suddenly you find yourself doing just that. Blogs are read. Message boards are examined. And, when a whim leads you finally to seek out an old acquaintance, you are amazed by what you find: post after post is filled to their name. Your friend is online.

And you begin to realize what this can mean.

The concept of social networking is one too often dominated by youth. Individuals believe it to be only for teens and their obsessions, the trade of music and secret jokes. But this idea can have far greater implications, and stay at home mothers should understand just how those implications can be applied to them.

There are endless ways to connect online. The use of social media software (such as networking websites and communities) allow users to seek each other out, discovering shared interests and experiences. Past friends can reunite, separated families can meet again, and strangers can become close companions with hobbies bonding even the most disparate of personalities.

This is invaluable for mothers who have little time to leave their homes, who must instead stay near their children. Obligations can’t be refused. Affection can’t be denied. Their schedule is simply too crowded for outside adventures, but this does not include the ones found within a computer. A monitor can become a much needed gateway.

Gaining relationships is essential for all individuals. Social media simply makes it easy. Through the tap of a keyboard the world can be revealed, and parents will then discover easy conversations and far easier rewards.

One of the great things about having a laptop is that you can take it anywhere. However, while that’s a great feature, one of the drawbacks is that your laptop isn’t able to access wireless internet wherever it goes. The only place that you will be able to log on to the internet is where wireless internet is offered. These are places such as the library, internet cafes, Starbucks and other remote locations featuring this free service to you, and when the service is free there is always a chance of extra files being downloaded. This can cause your memory to be taken up, so before taking advantage of free WiFi cloud storage might be something to consider.

The fact that laptops can’t access wireless internet everywhere is irritating when you consider that the iPhone has wireless internet service virtually anywhere it goes. Well, the good news is that there are a couple ways you can bring wireless internet to your laptop no matter where you are! You just need to decide which one is the best for you.

Use Your iPhone: If you have an iPhone then you do have the ability to get wireless internet to your laptop. There are several applications out there that will give your iPhone the ability to transform itself into a modem for your laptop. However, keep in mind that to access these apps, you will most likely have to jailbreak your iPhone 3.0 first. But, if you have an iPhone 4.0, internet tethering is supported by AT&T when you purchase the Tethering Plan for an additional $20 a month.

Purchase an Internet Air Card: If you don’t have an iPhone, these little gadgets are great for accessing wireless internet on your laptop. Companies like AT&T, Verizon Wireless, Sprint and Sierra Wireless all have air cards that allow laptops to access wireless internet. However, before you purchase an air card, take the time to analyze how much internet usage you require and how much your budget will allow. For example, some air cards allow you two to five megabytes and others only allow 250 gigabytes. Naturally, the price varies for these air cards too. You may be looking at $40 a month or $80 a month – all depending on how much data usage you need. So, make your decision carefully!

Satellite internet is a great option for those that are unable to get internet through other methods. Usually, these are people that live out in the country where internet providers are unable to go. However, before you decide to get satellite internet, it is important that you understand the disadvantages in advance to save yourself a lot of frustration later on.

Price: First, the price of satellite internet can be considerably more than what other internet providers offer. This is because you have to pay for special equipment to be installed. You are also paying for the actual internet service, which is a special convenience since no other internet provider is able to service you.

Time Delay: While satellite internet is much better than dial-up internet service, there is still a bit of a time delay with it. This is natural because of the distance the satellite waves have to travel in order to bring you the information you’re searching for. Generally, the delay is only a few seconds, which isn’t much at all. However, for those that enjoy playing online games, this can be huge. So, be sure you understand the time delay issue if you expect to play an internet game that requires high-speed internet service.

Interference: While any internet service can experience temporary interference, satellite internet is just a little more susceptible to it. This is because it’s a satellite and the satellite has to send waves of information thousands of miles to the satellite home base and back before the website is viewable on your computer screen. So, understand that when you are experiencing bad weather it is quite possible your internet service may be unavailable.

Fair Access Policy: Satellite internet service is subject to the Fair Access Policy, which means that you are limited to the amount of internet bandwidth you can use a day. This is set up to give each satellite internet user the same amount of time online. Therefore, the satellite company can restrict your internet usage. Just be sure you read and understand the Fair Access Policy before subscribing.

As of 2010, the world is a technological planet full of people that rely on the internet to connect with others all over the globe for both their personal and business needs. Not only does the internet help us perform basic functions and job tasks, but it now also helps us get from point A to point B with GPS, play online video games a host of other things as well. Thus, we need the internet to be fast. Wireless internet service does just that.

At first, dial-up internet service was great because it was the only thing we knew. However, times have changed, and thankfully, so has our internet services. We now have the option to get internet through satellite, DSL, cable and also through wireless internet too. Out of the previous four options, wireless internet has some great benefits that the others don’t offer.

Affordability: For the service you are getting, wireless internet is the best option to go with as it costs a lot less than satellite internet. When you compare it to DSL and cable, wireless internet connections have the ability to bring in more information at a faster speed. Usually with DSL, and sometimes even through cable internet providers, you have to pay more for faster broadband speeds.

Speed: Wireless internet service has the ability to provide users with extremely fast service. In fact, wireless internet can bring close to 2 megabytes of data within a second! This is a major deal for those that use the internet for business purposes such as video conferences. It’s also a much needed feature for online gamers as well.

Mobility: The most obvious benefit of wireless internet service is the fact that it allows you to move around and still access it. Some people don’t see the need to be mobile while online, but it is actually a really nice feature to have. It gives you the freedom to take your computer to any room in the house, or even out on the patio!

Pretty much anyone that owns a computer has heard of Spyware before. However, many people have no idea what Spyware is and how it is related to the internet. Basically, the term”Spyware” is used loosely to describe any type of software that has been downloaded or installed on your computer that tries to carry out certain actions. These actions can be popping up unwanted advertisements, compromising your computer’s configuration or even gathering various types of information about you through the files on your computer.

The way the internet is involved with Spyware is because the internet is usually Spyware’s vehicle into your computer. Spyware is a threat to you because it can be installed on your computer without you even noticing it’s there, for instance when you are downloading or using a driver update. The most common way Spyware gets installed on your computer is when you download another type of internet software or file. For example, it can be attached to video and music files. While most people think all Spyware is sneaky and unwanted, there are actually some Spyware programs that you unknowingly agree to when you download something from the internet.

So, how do you know if Spyware has been installed on your computer and what can you do to prevent it? There are several signs of Spyware infected computers. These signs include extra toolbars appearing on your screen, more pop-up advertisements than normal, a slow running computer and, in the worst cases, computers that crash quite often. If you suspect your computer has fallen victim to an internet Spyware program, then take it in and have it checked out by a computer technician.

The best way to protect your computer from an internet Spyware program is to try to prevent it before it happens. All you have to do is go to your local Best Buy, Target or WalMart and shop the computer aisle to find a good anti-spyware program. These programs run regular checks to make sure your computer isn’t infected. Another form of prevention is reading all disclosures before downloading anything off the internet as some Spyware programs are actually disclosed.

People are always looking for better ways to help streamline their lives for the sake of convenience. One of the great ways to help organize your life is by using the internet to make your phone calls. This is what VoIP, or Voice over Internet Protocol, does.

The technology behind VoIP is really cool because what it actually does to make this work, is it takes your voice and then sends it out through the internet in the form of a digital signal. Isn’t that amazing? There are several ways you can make your phone calls using the Voice over Internet Protocol technology. These include: using a VoIP phone, through a VoIP adapter attached to a regular phone or through your computer! As if that isn’t cool enough, if you use VoIP through your computer, then you may have the ability to even use it when you’re able to access wireless internet service, regardless of where you are!

As with any type of technology that requires the use of the internet, there are certain things you must have before you can take advantage of VoIP phone services. The first, is a high-speed internet connection. This is not negotiable. It is a necessity.

While having high-speed internet service for VoIP is non-negotiable, the way you actually place your calls is. Depending on the provider you contract with, you may have the option to use your computer, regular phone or the VoIP special phone. However, this all depends on who your VoIP provider is as they each have their own requirements.

The one thing you need to pay special attention to when researching the different Voice over Internet Protocol providers is their terms and conditions. You need to understand who you can call and who can call you. While you can generally call other VoIP users, you may be charged, or unable, to call non-VoIP subscribers. VoIP is a great service, but always read and understand the fine print before you commit.

Voice over Internet Protocol is an awesome service that has a lot of great features for subscribers. The reason VoIP isn’t used more frequently is because the idea of using the phone over the internet seems radical to a lot of people. However, when one looks at the advantages associated with VoIP phone service, it may change his or her viewpoint.

Cost: The amount of money you will save when you switch to VoIP is the advantage that people enjoy the most. Traditional phone companies like to “nickel and dime” you to death, but when you use the internet to make phone calls the fees aren’t nearly as outrageous. The key to saving the most money possible with VoIP is to find the internet provider with the most suitable package for your needs. If a lot of your family and friends have VoIP, then it may be practical to get a more traditional plan that allows you to talk to other VoIP users for free. So, take the time to research different VoIP plans to ensure you maximize the amount money you will save.

Mobility: One of the things a lot of people don’t know is that they can generally take their VoIP service with them. This is because it works through the internet! Therefore, if a high-speed wireless internet connection is in the area, most times you will be able to use your VoIP service!

Streamlining: An awesome advantage of using your computer for VoIP communications is the ability to streamline your internet activities. You can surf the web, check your emails and do other online activities while you’re on the phone. You can also share online information with the person you’re talking to, and sometimes you can even see the person you’re talking to by using a webcam. Pretty cool, huh?

While Voice over Internet Protocol has some pretty cool and unique advantages, it is like everything else and also has disadvantages as well. The mistake many people make when they sign up for any service is that they don’t thoroughly research the service before signing their name on the dotted line. VoIP is a great service and may benefit your family in many ways, however, please investigate the disadvantages below before your make your final decision.

Sound: There isn’t a proven way to get around the sound issue surround VoIP phone service. This is because your voice is broken down digitally so that it can travel across the internet to the person on the other end of the phone. However, there are many people that will tell you they’ve never had a problem with the sound quality of their VoIP service. So, while it may not be an issue for you, just be aware that is the biggest issue surrounding VoIP phone service.

Lag Time: In addition to poor sound quality, you may experience some lag time while using VoIP to communicate. This has to do with the fact that your computer is sending large voice files over the internet. The lag time shouldn’t be like what you would experience if you had satellite internet, but it will still be noticeable. So, be prepared for this too.

Equipment: The only equipment you will need that is absolutely necessary is a connection to high-speed internet and the appropriate receiver to communicate with. This may be your computer, regular phone (with a VoIP adapter) or a VoIP phone. However, many people have found that to help with the sound and lag time issues, it is necessary to have updated equipment, especially if you are primarily using your internet to make phone calls.

Interference: Since the internet is the way VoIP functions, you won’t have access to VoIP if your internet goes out. So, make sure you have good internet connections in different circumstances. While there isn’t much you can do to prevent this, being prepared for it will help tremendously.

The internet has helped thousands of individuals streamline their home and business lives in a variety of ways. This holiday season you can put your high speed internet connection to use once again. How? To complete your holiday shopping without having to leave the comfort of your house,or your pajamas!

While many holiday shoppers have used the internet here and there to help complete their Christmas gift lists, there are still many who are shopping the old-fashioned way. There isn’t anything wrong with supporting your local businesses during the holidays, however, if you are looking for gifts that can be found at any large retail chain, you can save yourself time, money and stress by using the internet to find these gifts! Below are just a few reasons to get online and shop this holiday season.

Money: While the holidays bring a lot of fun and excitement, they also bring financial stress on families as they struggle to buy gifts for everyone, as well as, extra groceries for all the holiday parties. Therefore, do yourself a favor and save some money by doing some of your holiday shopping through the internet. One of the great things about high speed internet is that you are able to quickly browse various stores and find the best deal for any single item, which guarantees you will save money!

Reduce Stress: Fighting the crowds during the holidays is no fun and can actually be downright stressful. This is especially true when sales are going on. However, did you know that, most of the time, in-store sales are also offered on the store’s website? So, get on the internet and buy the same sale item without having to physically push your way through the crowds like everyone else.

Variety: Variety is something else you get with internet shopping. Your local stores can only keep so many items in stock. The internet, on the other hand, carries everything! This gives you a lot more freedom when shopping for the perfect Christmas gift!

In the fast-paced world of technology, we have quickly outgrown the dial-up days of the internet. However, there are still many people that use dial-up. You may even be one of them. Well, there are many benefits that come from upgrading to a broadband connection. One of them is the fact that you can easily set up a wireless router in your home and not have to mess with being “hooked up” to your internet source at all times.

Not only will the wireless router provide you with internet access from anywhere in your house, but you will also be able to link your computer to your smart phones and easily transfer information that way as well. That may not seem extremely beneficial, but if you need to print a document and don’t want to get up and get on the computer, your wireless router will allow you to do that from your phone when you have a wireless enabled printer. Those are just a couple of the benefits of having a wireless router. However, before you can begin reaping the benefits, you need to find the right wireless router for you!

Finding the right wireless router can be time-consuming, but it’s important that you consider a variety of things to ensure you will be happy with the router you choose. Below are a few things to consider when shopping for routers.

-Usage: Will you be using your home internet service just to browse the web and do simple tasks, or do you need it for online gaming and more complex uses? This will also help you determine whether you need a single or dual band router.

-Range: If you will need a router to cover more than 180 feet while indoors, then you may need more than one router.

-Features: Research the different routers and the features they offer. Then, determine which ones are the most important to you. For example, do you need a router that has USB ports? If so, then mark it down as a “must-have.”

The most common ways of accessing the internet are through DSL or cable access. Both DSL and cable internet access are great, but there are some remote locations that neither DSL nor cable internet access can reach. Usually these are in rural areas that aren’t highly populated, and normally, the people living in these areas aren’t able to get cable television either. However, they are able to watch television with the help of a satellite dish. Now, they can also use a satellite dish to access the internet too!

The way satellite internet access works is through the installation of a satellite dish on your home and a satellite modem which is hooked up to your computer. When you click on the internet icon to access the internet, a signal is sent from your computer to the modem which then sends it to the satellite. The satellite has to send a signal to the satellite internet provider’s operation center which, in turn, transmits the webpage information back to you. You may not realize it because the transmission all happens within a few seconds, but the satellite is sending signals out to space and back in order to provide you with internet access!

Many people aren’t aware that satellite internet access even exists. This is something that needs to change because satellite internet service has several things to offer people. In fact, there are several benefits provided by satellite internet that other internet providers aren’t able to offer. These are listed below.

-Satellite internet access doesn’t interfere with your cable television service.

-Satellite internet access doesn’t interfere with your telephone service.

-Your cable and telephone lines won’t interfere with the internet connection speed because the connection is brought via satellite and not through the cable or phone lines.

-Satellite internet allows everyone access to the internet, even those in remote locations.

So, you’ve decided that you want to try to install your satellite internet yourself. This is an admirable task, and certainly will be a challenge for you, unless you’re a trained and licensed technician. Whether you were looking for an interesting hardware project to spend your day on, or simply wanted to save some money on installation, there are a few tips that you can follow in order to make your life easier:

Check your coordinates. Okay, now check them again. Done? Okay, one more time.

Your internet speed is going to rely completely on the coordinates that you’re using, and how accurately you configure them. The coordinates indicate an appropriate line of sight between the receiver and the orbiting satellite itself. A poor coordinate configuration will lead to little or no internet connectivity. If you don’t have coordinates, then you will want to contact your internet service provider in order to find them. Save this information in case you need to adjust it later.

Don’t get set on one installation location.

Sometimes trying to install the satellite receiver in the first place that seems convenient is a less than good idea. Sometimes it’s like trying to fit a square block through a triangle hole. Check out multiple potential areas for installation within your immediate location in order to find the right one for you. Be aware of natural features that may get in the way of connection, including how easily animals could topple the receiver itself.

Prepare your tools beforehand.

This isn’t a project for the handy person who only have a hammer in their belt pouch. You’re going to need drill bits of different sizes, a screw driver, and pliers at the ready.

Get educated on installation.

If your internet provider didn’t send you a pamphlet or installation guide, track one down. Once you have a guide, be sure to read it. Incorrectly connecting plugs, cables, or antenna will do more than make the installation more difficult. It can completely destroy your costly receiver equipment.

It is undeniable that Satellite internet is faster than dial-up in essentially every way. Satellite is also more accessible in remote locations, including in rural portions of the world that have no chance of DSL or Broadband deals, and even on RVs. However, it is also undeniable that not every internet based utility will work appropriately with Satellite. So, what does work on Satellite, and what doesn’t?

Things that Don’t Work

Satellite internet has a one word problem. “Latency.” Gamers are likely to know this term by the slang version, “lag.” This latency is the delay between the receiver requesting data and the satellite sending it down, across those twenty-three thousand miles between the two. The delay is really very minor, ranging from about 520 milliseconds to 840 milliseconds. In other words, it never even reaches a full second of delay. However, even this fraction of a second prevent certain activities.

Voice chatting and video chatting programs simply won’t work in this way, since the delay causes overlap issues that prevent the real time processing from functioning. Any real time program that requires real time internet access to function will be similarly hindered. Video games often fall into this category, especially if it is a multi player shooter, or any other game which requires real time response. Certain video games, such as MMORPGs, can be played with some effectiveness, although certain areas of the game will become either frustrating or impossible.

Things that Work

So, latency provides a major issue, but what happens outside the latency? Once the connection is established and the data is sent, the internet speed is comparable to broadband. This means that page load times will be low, but extended by the fraction of a second delay mentioned above, and that long downloads will be completed just as fast as they would be on broadband. Anything that doesn’t require a real time connection will function just fine, with that small delay being the only disadvantage of satellite when compared to broadband.

Latency, more commonly known as “lag,” is the worst enemy of PC gamers worldwide. It can also interfere with accessing websites, using real time internet services, and provide general annoyance worse than hairballs in your spaghetti. Most people know that internet latency is this bad, but these people frequently aren’t aware of the exact definition of latency. So, what is latency, and what causes it?

What is latency?

Latency is the delay between sending a request to your internet network and receiving a response. It covers a huge variety of potential kinds of delays related to hardware and internet service. “Low latency” is the qualification given to a network with minimal delays, but can vary greatly in actual technical abilities. Latency is measured in milliseconds, and what is “bad” or “good” latency will vary dependent on your activity. For internet gamers and real-time application users, a latency of less than a hundred ms is generally required. For many others, a latency of 200 to 800 is acceptable.

What isn’t latency?

It is important to clarify that latency is not the same thing as bandwidth. Bandwidth is the amount of data that you can transfer at a time from your internet service provider. As such, slow download rates, page load times, and internet streaming are not due to latency, but bandwidth issues, in almost all cases.

What causes latency?

There are many different sources of latency, but they all have to do with not receiving or sending data to your internet service provider as quickly as possible. The first major cause is computer based. If your computer doesn’t have up to date hardware, software, or firmware, you may be bottlenecking your internet access on your computer. The second major cause is home hardware based. If you have an out of date router or modem, a wireless connection from a long distance away or that has to deal with large amounts of interference, you will be creating additional unnecessary delays. The third major cause is service based. Some cheap internet providers have latency issues, and some internet types, like satellite internet, come with built in high latency.

Even with super-fast internet connection, the best possible hardware, and no major bugs, it’s possible that you’re not getting the most out of your home’s wireless internet. Here are a few quick tips on getting better signal strength and faster connection with your home’s wireless router.

1. Position, position, position.

Your wireless router should be placed in the most central location possible. The router will “bubble out” from where it is positioned, so if it’s placed close to the edge of the home, much of the signal strength will be wasted. If you absolutely can’t move it, there are different antenna types that can be used so your wireless stream isn’t being wasted.

2. Make your hardware as shiny as possible.

If you don’t already have a top-of-the-line router, you can always look into something that has a little more strength. When you’re buying your modem and router, you will get more bang for your buck by investing in multiple items from the same vendor, since doing so has shown a strong tendency to increase the hardware efficiency. Beyond your router, your computer’s network adapter might get a fair deal stronger with replacement. If you can’t, or just don’t want to, replace your hardware, make sure that your firmware and device drivers are all up to date. You can also invest in extras like wireless repeaters in order to bolster signal strength in all portions of your house.

3. Get rid of interference.

There are many things that can get in the way of your router’s transmission. Metal objects, or metal materials as a part of your decor, can disrupt your wireless broadcast. Other wireless devices, such as cordless phones, can also get in the way. Getting rid of these items, moving them to different areas, or moving your router away from them, can all help improve your signal strength.

4. Secure your network.

If your internet connection isn’t password protected, it’s entirely likely that other people are leeching off of it, and that’s one surefire way to hurt your signal strength. Simply adding a password to your wireless router will get rid of these unwelcome guests.

People are becoming more and more aware of Satellite internet. There are many reasons for this. Large companies, such as Hughes Net, have launched aggressive advertising campaigns on the radio and television. Major satellite web providers have also been able to reduce their prices significantly while simultaneously increasing their speed. And many people no longer use programs like Ares Galaxy from open source provider Ares to share music files. All of this has meant that satellite is more visible and more appealing. Still, satellite internet isn’t the best option for everyone. Here are the major advantages and disadvantages of satellite internet connection:

On the Plus Side

Satellite internet is fast, with download and upload speeds up to five times faster than dial-up, and only marginally slower than many standard DSL and Cable connections.

Unlike dial-up, satellite doesn’t disrupt your phone service or require an extra phone line. In addition, unlike some cable internet, satellite won’t cause any potential problems with your cable connection.

Satellite internet isn’t impacted by wiring problems, so it is often more reliable than other internet sources.

Satellite is available almost everywhere. Even recluses hiding in a cabin in the Wyoming wilderness will be able to get a solid satellite connection – something that is absolutely not possible to do with DSL or Cable.

On the Down Side

While the prices of Satellite internet are currently comparable to DSL and Cable internet, that still makes it more expensive than dial-up.

Satellite internet has higher setup fees than other forms of internet, since you need to purchase the appropriate hardware and have it installed by a certified technician.

There is a small amount of latency with the connection. Latency, the delay between taking an action and getting a result, will not be a problem for most. However, for people using the internet for gaming, voice chats, or video conferences, the latency will cause a very real disruption.

FAP, or the “fair access policy,” creates some limitations for heavy internet users. This policy, implemented by most satellite companies, makes sure that all users have equal access to the satellite’s data transmission power, and can create significant slow-down to especially large downloads.

Satellite internet connections are more and more popular, largely thanks to new technologies that allow for faster connection speeds and lower prices for subscribers. The wireless internet provided by satellite companies is certainly faster than dial-up alternatives, and is far more readily available in rural areas than DSL or Cable internet. So, how exactly is satellite internet able to offer affordable and speedy internet access to such a broad geographic area?

One of the reasons that the price and speed for satellite net connections has improved is the approach known as geostationary connection. Geostationary connection gets your home’s satellite receiver in touch with a satellite that is always in the same direction. Obviously, the satellite is constantly revolving around the world, so it’s not in the same “position.” However, it is revolving on a trajectory that allows it to be in the same position relative to your receiver. This means fewer problems maintaining a stable connection, lower installation costs, and greater overall performance consistency.

In order to cover all these different areas, different satellites are launched. An independent satellite is needed for each area the size of the state of Wyoming, give or take. These satellites themselves function at an incredibly high “rate of transfer,” or in more common terms, speed. Their frequency is 18 ghz or higher – an earth shattering speed so impressive that it would overload your computer. So the transmission of data goes between the satellite and the receiver, and the receiver’s hardware tones down the data before it gets to your computer, or before your information is transmitted up to the satellite, minimizing the amount of data that actually needs to be displayed or sent. This transfer and conversion is what causes the latency often associated with satellite net connect ions.

This conversion also works to minimize the total data that can be transfered. This works to the advantage of all subscribers in the area, since all of the people using the same satellite will take up a portion of that satellite’s resources.

Everyone’s life gets crazy. When you just can’t think straight anymore, use these four steps to staying sane.

Time. Take time to breathe. Every day, you should have ten to fifteen minutes of time to yourself to collect yourself and refresh. Their should be no ifs or buts about it—without it, you won’t stay sane at all. If Baby goes down for a nap, first take 10 minutes to yourself before rushing off to clean. If you’re a planner who schedules your day to the last half-hour, leave at least one half-hour slot open. This will give you more leeway in case you run behind, and allow you to feel less rushed and feel able to take those ten minutes you need.

Place. It is important to have a safe place you can run to that energizes you. If you have a garden, go walk around in it. If you really love your porch, sit on the swing. If incomplete projects bother you, try to create one space where everything is done—even if its just the wall-papered powder room downstairs. If messes bother you, clean one corner of a room and sit with your back to the rest of the mess.

Action. Once you are in a place that calms and energizes you (or at least doesn’t make you more anxious), do something you enjoy. Pick up your favorite book and read your favorite part, or do a little crocheting. If you still need calming, put in a good cd, close your eyes and listen to it. Lay on the floor and relax. Meditate or pray. Do whatever will relax you and release the tension that has built up over the day.

Be Thankful. Focus on what you have to be grateful for—a nice neighborhood, a good family, a job at all. Try pulling out old pictures and remembering good times you’ve have and be thankful for them. Remember the people in your life who support you.

These simple ways to distress might just be enough to help you keep your head in your crazy day.
